A mature Japanese maple had been left unpruned for years. It was dense, misshapen and shading its own lower branches, but structurally sound. The owners wanted it shaped, not removed.

✓ Assessed structure and health before any cutting
✓ Selected primary branches to build a Niwaki-style frame over several visits
✓ Thinned and cloud-pruned the foliage to reveal the trunk line and create layered canopies
✓ Scheduled a follow-up shaping program so the form matures over time
